Try being a shaman

I know a caster in all epics whose guild recently asked him to replace his green gems with blue ones and enchant everything he could (head/gloves/legs). He has the leg enchant, weapon enchant, and shoulder enchant. He also has some blue gems in his tier items but he's got green gems in his Shadowweave set (they only give 1 less spell damage than the blue ones).

With the new Season 3 out and gems being overpriced like mad, it would cost him around 250-300 gold to buy the raw blue gems in order to replace his few green ones. It would give him a buff of about 1-3 spell damage. He doesn't have his head or gloves enchanted because they are epics that will mostlikely be replaced soon, but if he enchants them, the cost may shoot up to 400-600g depending upon the market.

He does not have the gold to do this. Is it ok to spend 600+ gold socketing/enchanting things you'll replace soon without gaining much simply to appease guild officers?

I'd like your opinions please.

Thanks

I believe there has been a similar question in the Warrior forums a while ago.

Try and find it, as I personally don't feel like just rehashing the same thing again.

Unless his DPS is significantly suffering, I'd just tell the officers to stuff it unless they're willing to pay for it. You can usually pick up the cheaper low level enchants off levelling enchanters usually. A few points of + damage are not noticible.

Was it the thread about the warrior who was told to fill all his slots with stamina gems? That's a bit different.

No, the difference there was between +9 and +12 stamina gems and proper enchants.

In short, it will always be worth it if you are even remotely serious about raiding.

I would, with season3 creating a price explosion, probably give the member(s) some time to get their stuff sorted out - but that very much depends on whether or not said member(s) actually already had been given a chance to get themselves properly gemmed and enchanted.

If you are not serious enough about it, get the heck out of a raiding guild and go back to farming the regular level 70 instances.

Aerath is 100% correct.

Try being a shaman. I have 3 sets of gear, every time I get an upgrade the bank groans and cracks. I maintain all of my gear with the best of gems and enchants. One of the main reasons I am an enchanter / jewelcrafter. Executioner cost me a 50g tip, on top of mats. I got my resto T4 helm a couple of weeks ago, I was down to 2g.

And it's not 1 less spelldmg on those gems, its 2 less (runed green = +7, runed rare = +9)
If thats 8 sockets with el cheapo grande gems, they are missing out on 16 spelldmg. I bet he hasnt done the +15 spelldmg to bracers either. there is 31 spelldmg. He is missing another 15 from gloves, up to 46 spelldmg now. He doesn't have the head? there is another 22 spelldmg, iirc and a bunch of crit. Ok, he is missing 68 spelldmg.

sixty-eight spelldmg I can guess at without even looking at armory - thats probably at least a 10% boost in DPS. And not showing effort in equipping your character is noticed by guild officers. expect the same level of investment back from your guild, i.e. minimal.

That's just slack.

(p.s. if you mean the +3 spellcrit/+4 spelldmg el cheapos, vs. +4/+5, thats even worse, he is missing a bunch of crit as well)

I'll have to check the warrior thread, but if people are suggesting go +9 gems on anything purple, then I am going to disagree. Tank dead = raid dead. Go the +12... back later after I read it.
